Alastair Douglas

Alastair Douglas is a Senior Lecturer and course director for the MA Applied Linguistics and TESOL at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge. A teacher trainer since 2003, he delivers CELTA and DELTA courses globally. He is a CELTA assessor, DELTA external examiner, and module marker. He holds an MA in Applied Linguistics and English Language Teaching from King’s College London and a Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Research. He is a regular speaker at IATEFL conferences.

Jacqueline Douglas

Jacqueline Douglas is a highly experienced UK-based freelance trainer with over 25 years in ELT. She is a Cambridge CELTA tutor and Joint Chief Assessor, DELTA tutor, and a tutor on the MA Applied Linguistics and TESOL at Anglia Ruskin University. She holds an MA in Professional Development in Language Education from NILE, specializing in learner autonomy and materials development, and a Certificate in Coaching from the University of Cambridge. She regularly contributes to journals and other publications.

Who is the course for?

Prerequisites
  • English language proficiency: C1 or higher level according to the CEFR scale
  •  Age: 18 and above
Course structure

The CELTA course can only be delivered by centres authorised by Cambridge English. The course duration is at least 120 hours and includes:

  •  support and advice in the teaching process
  •  support and supervision in planning the lesson process
  •  6 hours of assessed teaching practice for each participant, supervised by trainers
  •  feedback on teaching practice
  •  mutual observation of teaching practice
  •  6 hours of listening to classes taught by experienced English language teaching professionals

80 additional study hours should be allocated for course preparation, literature reading, research, assignment writing, lesson preparation, and planning.

The CELTA course covers the following topics:

  •  students and teachers, teaching and learning context
  •  language analysis and comprehension
  •  language skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking
  •  lesson planning and resource use
  •  development of teaching skills
